CAD FOR CUTTING - A SERVICE FOR ARTISTS & DESIGNERS CAD FOR CUTTING is a 'drawing for cnc cutting' service specialising in sculpture and other creative projects. Anyone accessing the CAD FOR CUTTING service (typically artists, arts business and individuals designing a unique project), can send their completed CAD FOR CUTTING files to a CNC service bureau for laser, water-jet, plasma, gas and knife cutting, NC rounting or vector etching etc. You can make your own arrangements and forward files yourself, or I can organise this part of the 'workflow' for you. I have for many years collaborated with artists and designers to produce creative projects - from unique monumental sculptures through to multiples of a small design. My experience and qualifications in fine art & craft engineering (workshop based), helps me to appreciate the challenge of developing creative ideas and realising them through technical processes, materials selection and practical construction. I offer three simple to understand and easy to use CAD FOR CUTTING services which are ideal for use by creative individuals and businesses, regardless of project size or prior experience of CNC/fabrication processes. A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF MY CAD FOR CUTTING SERVICES Each of the CAD FOR CUTTING services is flexible and can be adapted to the needs of an individual project. All three services are designed to deliver accurate and cost effective CAD files that are optimised for use with laser cutting and similar CNC processes. Once I have prepared your CAD FOR CUTTING file, you (or I) can forward a copy to your preferred cutting service bureau or fabricator; in some cases I can help you identify the best technical service(s) for your needs and even manage the project 'workflow' on your behalf. QUICKDRAW QUICKDRAW is a service ideal for use by experienced artists or art service companies (foundries, fabricators etc). To prepare a QUICKDRAW file I will need to be supplied with a dimensioned sketch of your design. The sketch must contain the complete details of your design - including it's outline (the CUTTING PATH), it's dimensions, plus the location and dimensions of any features such as holes or 'cut-outs' etc. I can usually prepare QUICKDRAW files at a very competitive fixed price, though please note there is no support facility available with this service. DESIGNDRAW DESIGNDRAW is more flexible than QUICKDRAW, and includes access to optional support and advice for your project. The support feature is available to assist you with issues such as design optimisation, material's choice and processes selection. DESIGNDRAW is ideal if you have a full set of project design drawings that need transfering to a VECTOR CUTTING FORMAT, though I can also help if you only have a basic concept that needs further develoment. In addditon to your cuttting files, I can help prepare documentation for fabricators that may reduce their workload and costs (by supplying cutting, assembly and specification schedules for example), I may also be able to suggest minor adaptations to your design and cutting files to minimise production and fabrication costs. TRACEDRAW TRACEDRAW is a service for converting creative freehand drawn designs (also photographic outlines etc), into CAD FOR CUTTING FILES. TRACEDRAW uses your original design drawing by importing a digitised version into CAD. The outline of the image can then be manually traced (automated software is not used), converting freehand lines or graphic/photo image outlines into 'machine readable entities'. The outline can then be unified into one or more continuous 'VECTOR CUTTING PATHS', which in turn can be enlarged, reduced or otherwise manipulated for cutting from a wide range of sheet materials. With the TRACEDRAW service, you can create a detailed design (with a clearly defined outline), using traditional graphic techniques - pen on paper for example. After TRACEDRAW conversion and scaling, your design can be cut at many times it's original size from a sheet of metal, plastic, wood, glass, or any other suitable material. Like DESIGNDRAW, TRACEDRAW allows you to access optional support for your project if you require additional help. |
