METAL SPRAYING AND BRONZING

Metal spraying (the application of a metallic coating by torch or flame gun), and bronzing (the application of a bronze finish by chemical immersion), are primarily decorative finishes for steel works. This process deposits a thin layer of quality metal onto a substructure formed in a more economic material, the intention here being to impersonate the appearance of more expensive metals. It would be unusual to apply sprayed finishes to a cast work, as doing so rather contradicts the finish potential already offered by the cast metal. More commonly, spayed and bronzed finishes are applied to wrought fabrications. Bronzing in particular should be used carefully as the finish is not especially corrosion resistant and may be easily damaged by mis-handling.
